A charivari is when performers enter the ring at the beginning of the circus to introduce themselves and have a little fun.
Before entering CalArts in 1992 I was a roustabout for the Big Apple Circus. Being a participant in an inclusive nomadic arts community and observing how the performers from all over the world can come together in a ring to create incredible physical artistry, and all the behind-the-scenes work that went into it, was a major influence on my life at that time.
